Overview

The Kendrick High School guidance staff consists of four counselors and a guidance secretary. The counselors provide individual and group counseling as well as classroom guidance services in order to facilitate the academic, career, and personal/social development of each student. Counselors assist with parent/teacher conferences, peer relationships, academic guidance, post-secondary educational planning, self awareness, career planning, drug awareness, and other areas of need. Counselors also assist students with information relating to scholarships, college visitation, college and military recruiter visitation, financial aid, testing and test interpretation.

Information and links to helpful information:

GAcollege411.org is an excellent web site with information that students need when planning for their careers and post-secondary education. This website helps students explore careers, plan high school courses, prepare for the SAT, ACT, COMPASS and ASSET, compare colleges, apply to colleges, learn about financial aid, and research and apply for scholarships, loans, and grants. We strongly encourage each student to create a free, secure MY411 account.

HOPE Program

Georgia’s HOPE program helps students in several ways:

  1. Scholarships for students in degree programs at public and private colleges and universities.
  2. Grants for students enrolled in certificate or diploma programs at public colleges or technical colleges.
  3. Awards for General Education Development (GED), high school equivalency certificate, recipients who are entering college.

HOPE Scholarship

Eligibility for the HOPE scholarship is based on a student’s grade point average in the core curriculum courses. Students must earn a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale if enrolled in the college preparatory curriculum. Students must earn a 3.2 cumulative average on a 4.0 scale if enrolled in the technology/career curriculum.

You must use your HOPE eligibility within 24 months of the date of your GED certificate.

SAT/ACT

Students who plan to take the ACT or SAT should be well prepared prior to the test date. In addition to test preparation on the GAcollege411.org website, we also encourage students to visit www.collegeboard.com for SAT prep and www.ACT.org for ACT prep. Students may register for a free online SAT prep course—see your counselor for more information.
