OverviewThe Kendrick High School guidance staff consists of four counselors and a guidance secretary. The counselors provide individual and group counseling as well as classroom guidance services in order to facilitate the academic, career, and personal/social development of each student. Counselors assist with parent/teacher conferences, peer relationships, academic guidance, post-secondary educational planning, self awareness, career planning, drug awareness, and other areas of need. Counselors also assist students with information relating to scholarships, college visitation, college and military recruiter visitation, financial aid, testing and test interpretation. Information and links to helpful information:GAcollege411.org is an excellent web site with information that students need when planning for their careers and post-secondary education. This website helps students explore careers, plan high school courses, prepare for the SAT, ACT, COMPASS and ASSET, compare colleges, apply to colleges, learn about financial aid, and research and apply for scholarships, loans, and grants. We strongly encourage each student to create a free, secure MY411 account.
HOPE ProgramGeorgia’s HOPE program helps students in several ways:
HOPE ScholarshipEligibility for the HOPE scholarship is based on a student’s grade point average in the core curriculum courses. Students must earn a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale if enrolled in the college preparatory curriculum. Students must earn a 3.2 cumulative average on a 4.0 scale if enrolled in the technology/career curriculum.
At public colleges/universities in Georgia, the HOPE Scholarship award covers tuition, HOPE approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance of up to $300 per academic year. At a private college or university in Georgia, you may receive a HOPE Scholarship award of $3,000 per academic year if you are a full-time student, or $1500 per academic year if you are enrolled as a half-time student. HOPE GrantHigh school graduates in Georgia who are attending a Georgia public technical college enrolled in a certificate or diploma program are eligible for HOPE assistance regardless of grade point average. The HOPE grant covers tuition, HOPE approved mandatory fees, and a book allowance of up to $300 per academic year. HOPE Award for GED RecipientsLegal residents of Georgia who earned a General Education Development (high school equivalency) certificate awarded by the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education after June 30, 1993, may receive a one-time $500 HOPE award. This award can be used toward tuition, books, and other educational costs at an eligible public technical college or public or private college or university in a degree, diploma, or certificate program. You must use your HOPE eligibility within 24 months of the date of your GED certificate. SAT/ACTStudents who plan to take the ACT or SAT should be well prepared prior to the test date.
